Taking a Proactive Approach to Living a Longer Life

There is nothing more important than your health and the health of your loved ones. We all aspire to live long, active lives. We want to be there to see our children and grandchildren grow. We want to accomplish all the things we’ve always dreamed of doing—from retiring or buying a vacation home to starting a business or giving more to charity.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t always play out that way for all of us. Many of us know someone who has received a major medical diagnosis. While some of that is beyond our control, the good news is we have the ability to influence and impact a lot of our livelihood. Now more than ever, we can take control of our health.

A recent article in Time noted a study that suggests following five healthy habits can help expand your life by as much as a decade. They are:

  1. Eat a healthy diet
  2. Exercise regularly
  3. Maintain a healthy body weight
  4. Drink only in moderation
  5. Don’t smoke

And there are other things you can do too…

How Today’s Medical Technology Can Help Increase Your Longevity

The resource available for download below outlines how advanced medical technology can help you and your loved ones identify potential health risks and increase your long-term health.

Here are a few key ideas to help you take a more proactive approach to your health:

  • More and more, biomarkers (such as blood tests, blood pressure, calcium scores, heart rhythm, etc.) and genomic mapping are enabling doctors to identify individuals at risk for certain health problems early on. This can help to promote early detection and management of certain diseases better than it could happen in the past.
  • You can have your genome mapped by any number of health service providers today.
  • Once you have your genome mapped, you can work with longevity care experts. They can help you monitor your specific biomarkers with the goal of “staying in front of any illnesses, diseases or other negative health outcomes”.

As technology evolves, and we continue to learn more about the human body, hopefully we can apply that knowledge to help people live richer, fuller lives. But we also have to take a leading role in our health. We have to make sure we’re caring for our bodies and using all the resources available to optimize our health.
