The San Miguel School of Providence is an independent Lasallian middle school for urban boys from the Greater Providence area. The school is dedicated to the belief that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty.

The school was founded in 1993 as the first of what has become a model for 12 such Lasallian schools across the nation. Sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers of the District of Eastern North America, San Miguel serves boys from all cultures and faiths in grades five through eight.

San Miguel students experience a school culture that emphasizes citizenship, service, and personal responsibility in a caring learning environment where academics are rigorous, expectations are high, and individual talents are nurtured. Students grow into young men with a positive vision for the future that leads them to effect positive change in their lives and in their communities.

The San Miguel School is characterized by small classes, caring adults, rigorous academics to address individual needs and close academic deficits, and an extended school day with before-and after-school programming. The school is not tuition-driven in order to make a quality private education available to students and families with limited financial means.

The school is accredited through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is a proud member of the Nativity Miguel Network of Schools. One hundred percent of San Miguel’s graduating eighth-graders go on to high school, attending some of the top secondary schools in Rhode Island. Over the long term, close to 90% of San Miguel graduates complete high school, and 70% enter college or the military after graduation.
